Yes! The Explorer is equipped with an onboard toilet, and we have light snacks and drinks available for purchase during the trip.
Can I bring my own food and drinks?
Absolutely! We have light snacks available for purchase on board, but you are more than welcome to bring your own snacks and drinks along for the trip.
Can I buy merchandise on the boat?
Yes! We have Whales Sunshine Coast hats available to purchase on board for $49 so you can take home a souvenir from your adventure.
Do you accept Companion Cards?

How long is the whale watching tour?
The Whale Explorer is a premium offshore adventure that goes for up to 3 hours.
Is the boat wheelchair accessible?
We want everyone to experience the magic of whale watching wherever possible. However, due to the structural design and safety regulations of our vessel, The Explorer, the boat is not wheelchair accessible and does not have accessible toilet facilities on board.
Is the jet boat safe for the whales?
Absolutely. The Explorer is Australia’s largest jet-powered whale watching boat, meaning it operates entirely with jet propulsion and has no exposed propellers. This ensures the lowest possible impact on the marine life and keeps the whales 100% safe.
Is there a minimum age? Can I bring a baby or toddler?
The minimum age for passengers is 4 years old. Unfortunately, children under 4 cannot join the tour because the vessel does not have seatbelts and there are no baby change table facilities onboard. Child pricing applies to kids aged 4 to 16.
Is there a toilet on board?
Yes, we have a marine toilet on board for your convenience. Please note that due to the layout of the boat, it is not an accessible facility.
What happens if we don’t see any whales?
Our Whale Sighting Guarantee
With over 50,000 humpback whales migrating past the Sunshine Coast this year, and Captain “Shorty” at the helm of our high-speed jetboat, our success rate for finding whales is incredibly high. However, we are working with wild animals! In the highly unlikely event that we do not sight any whales during your Whale Explorer tour, we’ve got your back. You will be provided with a complimentary return ticket to come back and try again for free at any time during the 2026 season. (Please note: This guarantee provides a free return trip only and is not redeemable for a refund).
What is the capacity of the boat?
The Explorer safely seats a maximum of 46 passengers per tour. This keeps the group size comfortable so everyone gets a fantastic view of the action!
What is your cancellation or transfer policy?
Once booked, tickets are 100% non-refundable. However, if you need to change your date or time, you can transfer your booking as long as you give us at least 72 hours’ notice prior to your scheduled cruise.
What should I bring with me?
We recommend bringing sunglasses, a hat, a jacket, your camera, and a water bottle. We provide spray jackets onboard to keep you comfortable.
Where does the tour depart from?
We depart from the jetty at the Kawana Waters Hotel at the Kawana Marina.
Will I get wet during the trip?
Because we are a fast ocean-going boat and conditions vary day to day, you may get a little bit of sea spray during the cruise. We highly recommend bringing a waterproof jacket along. If you forget yours, don’t worry! We have complimentary jackets on board that you are welcome to borrow for the duration of the trip.
Will there be a guide to tell us about the whales?
Yes, you are in expert hands! Our crew has decades of combined knowledge in the whale watching industry. Our guides know exactly where to find the whales and love sharing fun, educational facts about their behaviours throughout the tour.
